Well the weekend has been a washout for any outdoor activity – like last weekend. Oh well – we still enjoyed our time together. We ended up at the mall yesterday for lunch and to buy the boys new sneakers for the spring and summer. We enjoyed Chick-Fil-A lunch and then found a Handy Manny promotion day in the center of the mall – hosted by Radio Disney to promote the new Race Car episode. Alex and Zach played there for a little while and then we headed down to the shoe store. We got a good buy 1 get 2nd 1/2 off deal at Rack Room shoes last Fall so I wanted to give them a shot…Nikes are Nikes, right??? Same deal going and so each boy got a new pair of sneakers. They are very funny too…they got their feet sized, found shoes, put them on and walked the rest of the day in those shoes. This was also the FIRST TIME that we went to the mall or any shopping place without a stroller!!!!! Both boys walked throughout the mall and they were very good. Alex is very focused on the task at hand (like Chris) and Zach and I were enjoying some window shopping and checking out the sights in the stores.
The boys have had a good Sunday. They actually slept in this morning because of the change to Daylight Saving Time so we skipped church today to allow them to sleep and be rested for the day. Oddly, Zach went to nap at his normal time and they seem to be right back on schedule. Alex, Zach and I (Chris will be in England) will head to church next week – especially since we need to deliver our Easter baskets. Started working on those today and Alex was very excited that Easter was coming soon.
Today I’m doing some pre-cooking for St. Patrick’s Day. We decided this year to do a Friday Fish Fry with the Mohrs (not that we go without meat on Fridays like Caltholics, but there is really nothing better during Lent than the Fish Fry
) and that is on Friday. But my Nanny always had a special Irish dinner on St. Patrick’s Day so I’m making our usual Irish Soda Bread (which is smelling wonderful right now in the oven) and Shephards Pie. I found a new Sheps Pie recipe at Kraft.com that changes some ingredients slightly and takes 100 calories off per serving! Perfect! So I’ll give that a try this year and see how it is. It is also much easier and quicker than my usual recipe so I can pre-make that dish on Tuesday night to save time.
