Rainy Weekend

Well the weekend has been a washout for any outdoor activity – like last weekend. Oh well – we still enjoyed our time together. We ended up at the mall yesterday for lunch and to buy the boys new sneakers for the spring and summer. We enjoyed Chick-Fil-A lunch and then found a Handy Manny promotion day in the center of the mall – hosted by Radio Disney to promote the new Race Car episode. Alex and Zach played there for a little while and then we headed down to the shoe store. We got a good buy 1 get 2nd 1/2 off deal at Rack Room shoes last Fall so I wanted to give them a shot…Nikes are Nikes, right???  Same deal going and so each boy got a new pair of sneakers. They are very funny too…they got their feet sized, found shoes, put them on and walked the rest of the day in those shoes. This was also the FIRST TIME that we went to the mall or any shopping place without a stroller!!!!!  Both boys walked throughout the mall and they were very good. Alex is very focused on the task at hand (like Chris) and Zach and I were enjoying some window shopping and checking out the sights in the stores.

The boys have had a good Sunday. They actually slept in this morning because of the change to Daylight Saving Time so we skipped church today to allow them to sleep and be rested for the day. Oddly, Zach went to nap at his normal time and they seem to be right back on schedule. Alex, Zach and I (Chris will be in England) will head to church next week – especially since we need to deliver our Easter baskets. Started working on those today and Alex was very excited that Easter was coming soon.

Today I’m doing some pre-cooking for St. Patrick’s Day. We decided this year to do a Friday Fish Fry with the Mohrs (not that we go without meat on Fridays like Caltholics, but there is really nothing better during Lent than the Fish Fry :-) ) and that is on Friday. But my Nanny always had a special Irish dinner on St. Patrick’s Day so I’m making our usual Irish Soda Bread (which is smelling wonderful right now in the oven) and Shephards Pie. I found a new Sheps Pie recipe at Kraft.com that changes some ingredients slightly and takes 100 calories off per serving!  Perfect!  So I’ll give that a try this year and see how it is. It is also much easier and quicker than my usual recipe so I can pre-make that dish on Tuesday night to save time.

Great Weekend Outside (that is right!)

We had a wonderful weekend with the boys – the weather was great and we got the boys outside each afternoon. Chris used this time to try out his new Nikon camera and he got some really nice photos of the boys. I love that he loves the camera!

The boys played all weekend. From setting up Alex’s room for a “sleepover” to blowing bubbles all over the backyard, they were actually playing nicely together. Phew!  Maybe the winter was making them be agitated with each other the last few weekends.

Alex had swim lessons on Saturday morning. Zach enjoyed time with Daddy, but I could tell that he was thrilled when we came home saying how nice it was outside. So after Zach’s nap (and I had already finished the laundry and gone grocery shopping!) we took the boys outside.  Then we had them outside again today after church…Zach is now on hour three of his nap so he must have been pretty worn out.  Yay!

For me and Chris, I went to a “Girls Night Out” on Friday evening. Each of us brought a dish or dessert for dinner. I really enjoyed the night with other moms from our church group. It was refreshing and great to have an evening of wonderful conversation. I got home late, but the evening went so fast. Then last night, Chris and I watched a movie – Chris had done his homework during the day so that we could enjoy the night. I made the Italian meatloaf recipe from his P90X food plan (who would have thought that turkey meat would be good for a meatloaf…did not really grow up thinking this way…) and we had some Light popcorn during the movie!

Sad that the weekend is ending. It is supposed to rain here for most (or all) of the week ahead so I’m happy that we got outside!

“NO” is the Word

March 2, 2010 - 8:31 pm No Comments

Me: Zachy, do you want to read books?

Zach: No.

Me: Zach, time to brush teeth.

Zach: No.

Chris: Zach, let’s get into the car to go to school.

Zach: No.

Alex: Zach, can I give you a hug?

Zach: No.

(you get the drift)
